Around 1310 BC the Hebrews were enslaved to the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses. Moses was essentially adopted by the previous pharaoh when moses’ mother saved him from slaughter of the baby hebrews boys by placing him in a basket and floating him down the Nile river.
When Moses was older, God revealed himself to through a burning bush and told him to free the Hebrews with the power God had given him. Moses went to the Pharaoh who refused to free his slaves, so Moses sent ten awful plagues upon Egypt.
The pharaoh promised to set the slaves free before the plagues were sent away, but he refused to free them when Moses came to him. The last plague that was sent would kill all the Egyptians first born baby sons, only those Hebrews that sacrificed a lamb to God and placed its blood over their door would be safe from the plague. At twelve the plague spread and killed the Egyptian boys and passed over the Hebrews homes. The Hebrews were set free and they left in a rush, without time to let the yeast in their bread to rise.
