Another word for Eucharist is the Holy Communion or Lord’s Supper, during this you take the body (bread) and blood (wine) of Jesus. The prayers and readings remind them of the solemn words and actions of someone close to death. In different churches you will find priests celebrate it differently but with the same message. Christians used to fast from midnight until the Celebration but now they only fast an hour before. A big change that happened to Eucharist over they years was that people didn’t know the Eucharist like they used to. By the thirteenth century communion had become really rare that the Church made a rule that everyone had to receive it at least once a year.
Today the celebration consists of; Introductory Rites prepares the gathered for the celebration, The Liturgy of the Word where the gathered listen to scriptures and present their petition to God, Liturgy of the Eucharist is when the sacrifice of jesus is renewed, Preparation of the Gifts where the bread and wine are prepared, The Eucharistic Prayer where thanks is said to God, The communion Rite where the gifts are taken and peace is spread and the Concluding Rites where they are blessed in their leave and told to live by God.
